My Expedition to Antarctica

The International Antarctic Expedition is organized by ‘2041’ and it takes place from the 13th – 25th March 2015, starting in Ushuaia (Argentina), traversing through the dangerous Drake Passage on an ice breaking sea-vessel to get to the Antarctic Peninsula.

The mission of this expedition is to preserve this beautiful continent and to create awareness about climate change. I am embarking on this expedition after being selected as a Youth Ambassador from India from hundreds of applicants worldwide. I am a TAS Officer and my participation is being sponsored by Tata Teleservices Limited.

The organization ‘2041’ was founded by polar explorer, environmental leader and public-speaker Robert Swan, OBE. As the first person in history to walk to both the North and South Poles, Swan has dedicated his life to the preservation of Antarctica. (Interestingly, the name ‘2041’ is actually the year in which the Antarctic Treaty gets reviewed. At present, as per the Treaty, all activities related to exploitation of mineral resources are banned in Antarctica – and the mission is to keep it that way. More information on http://www.2041.com)

What does IAE 2015 entail for me?

Many countries and brandI have been selected as a youth ambassador for IAE 2015. This requires me to travel to Antarctica from March 13-25, 2015 along with around 80 other participants including World Leaders, Environmental Experts and other Youth Ambassadors from 28 different nationalities.

The mission of this expedition is to build a sustainable society, promote recycling & renewable energy and create awareness about today’s issues of climate change and how it affects our present and future worldwide.

Being part of this expedition, I will be able to better understand the continent’s fragile ecosystem and observe the impact of climate change first-hand. I want to use this powerful information to spread awareness in educational institutions, especially in children and the youth of this Nation, through presentations and innovative visuals. In the long-term, not only do I want to be an exceptional leader for my organization, but I also want to influence environmental policy decisions – to ensure a better future.

As a young leader of the Tata Group, I believe this is a once in a life-time opportunity for me to engage with the next generation of global leaders, to take environmental responsibility, participate in policy development and enable future green technologies.

I am thrilled to be travelling to Antarctica for this noble cause and I am very thankful to Tata Teleservices for their exceptional support.

Stay tuned for more updates!
